Yorkshire Khatam Al-Quran 2014

On the 5th of April 2014, BruLeeds held their annual Yorkshire Khatam Al-Quran at Woodsley Multicultural Community Centre. Guest of honour was Cikgu Khalid Haji Sulaiman from the Brunei Student Unit. Other Yorkshire societies that were involved included BruSheff, BruHull, BNS and BruBrad.

BruLeeds was appointed by the Brunei Student's Union to host the MIB Talk session for Bruneian students in Leeds, Sheffield, York, Liverpool, Lancaster, Durham and Scotland and other surrounding areas.

MAJLIS KHATAM AL-QURAN YORKSHIRE 2012

On the 24th March 2012, BruLeeds society have hosted the first Majlis Khatam Al-Quran in Yorkshire. 5 societies were involved in the event which is BruBrad, BruHull, BNS, BruSheff and also BruLeeds. The event was located in Woodsley Road Community Centre. The Guest of Honor of the event is Director of Studies, Brunei Student Unit, Cikgu Hajah Azizan Binti Haji Datu Paduka Haji Othman. Approximately around 200 were present at the event and 140 partipicants from these 5 Society mentioned before.

Cultural festival: Wedding Extravaganza 2012

BRULEEDS SOCIETY PERFORMED FOR THE INTERNATIONAL WEDDING SHOWCASE

LEEDS, United Kingdom- Brunei Students studying in Leeds University had won the audience’s hearts by performing the remarkable Brunei Wedding, “Adat Bersanding” in the International Wedding showcase Extravaganza in conjunction with the International Cultural Festival organised by Leeds University Union, LUU. There were several international societies involved in this wedding showcase which include Bhangra, East African, Ghanian, Bombaian, Scottish and Polish Society.

This cultural festival is an annual event organised by LUU but it was only this year that the ‘Wedding Theme’ had been chosen for the festival and Bruleeds Society was very enthusiastic to perform on stage for the first time. Bruneian students took this opportunity to introduce Brunei wedding as well as to highlight its uniqueness to other countries.

There were about 30 Bruneian students taking part in the performance that comprised of the bride and the groom, “pengapit” and “Pengangun”. It was then followed by silat and dance performances; “silat cekak” and “ Anding Dida” respectively.  

The performance ended up with a big applause from the audiences as it was one of the best performances among all societies that participated in the showcase.
